The Pitch @ Ignite

So you think you’re the best? Come and prove it! Pitch against the best of the best from UC San Diego, San Diego State University and University of San Diego, CETYS University and Universidad de Autonoma de Baja California and fight for your university’s honor! Competitors will be pitching to judges from the Tech Coast Angels and audience members will be from around the San Diego entrepreneurial ecosystem including San Diego Venture Group and Connect members.

Who Should Apply?

  • This competition is open to the teams from UC San Diego, San Diego State University of San Diego and CETYS Universidad, Universidad Autonoma de Baja California, Point Loma Nazarene University and other universities in theCali San Diego region
  • The Individual Pitching Must:
    1. Be an active, contributing team member who is the founder or co-founder of the company.2. Be current undergraduate student, graduate student, or post doc OR a recent graduate. (Current student means enrolled in university in academic year 2016-2017; Recent graduate means an individual who graduated after 1/1/16)

How to Apply:

  1. Before applying, please complete this form to verify your eligibility.
  2. Create a profile on UC San Diego’s Private Community on Ideator (must use @ucsd.edu, @sdsu.edu, @mail.sdsu.edu, @sandiego.edu, @cetys.mx, @uabc.edu.mx email address. If you meet the eligibility requirements but have difficulty or questions contact: startupadvocate@ucsd.edu)
  3. Create your idea
    • Your application will be evaluated on the public information that you submit to the collection
    • Fill out all of the sections for your idea and be as thorough as possible.
    • Make the sections you want to use as part of the application “public”.
    • Remember, don’t include include your secret sauce in the public information!
  4. Invite your team members to your idea (each team member has to create their own profile)
  5. Invite Briana Weisinger, Startup Advocate as a team member (she is under a blanket NDA for UC San Diego and will keep all private sections of your idea confidential)
  6. Submit your idea to the collection on Ideator titled 2/22/17 The Pitch @ Ignite (go to “Collections tab at the top of the screen)
    • Click on “Collections” in the header navigation
    • Scroll to the bottom and you’ll find “2/22/17 The Pitch @ Ignite”
  7. Wait anxiously by your email and keep your eye on Ideator for the notification that you’re pitching!!!

What to Expect:

  • Six teams will be selected to pitch at The Pitch @ IGNITE
  • Teams will be notified of their selection on 2/17/17
  • Teams selected will have 4 minutes to pitch and 5 minutes for Q&A from the judging panel. You will be limited to exactly 4 minutes for your pitch so plan carefully!!!
  • Teams selected to pitch will have a table during the networking before and after The Pitch so please plan to bring your entire team (not just the person pitching). Arrive by 5:00pm for setup.

Entrepreneur Challenge Elevator Pitch Competition

EXTENDED – Deadline to apply:  11:59pm, Wednesday, February 8, 2017

The $10,000 Elevator Pitch Competition is a smaller scale, lighthearted competition designed to inspire young entrepreneurs to pursue their dreams. Teams involved will have a general development of their idea and craft a 90-second pitch to impress the panel of judges. Following up the competition will be workshops designed to improve the way you pitch your idea.  Contestants can win up to $2,500 for 1st place.

Who Should Apply?

  • UC San Diego undergrads, grads, post docs, faculty, etc.
  • Mid-stage competition appropriate for those who have a general development of their idea

How to Apply:

  1. Before applying, please read and sign this document regarding eligibility.
  2. Login or sign up on UC San Diego’s Private Community Ideator with your UCSD email. Competition space is limited and all information submitted will be used in the selection process. All information will remain confidential and not be shared with anyone outside of your team or The Entrepreneur Challenge. Click on this link for a step-by-step guide on how to submit your idea.
  3. Now that your profile is complete, go to the “Collections” tab and click on “Entrepreneur Challenge Pitch Competition” and press “ Submit an Idea,” select your idea, and write “For Elevator Pitch Competition” in the personal message section and submit the application.
  4. Wait for an Entrepreneur Challenge member to review and verify your profile is complete. Regularly check your UCSD email address for additional information that may be needed for final approval of your application.
  5. Those accepted into the competition will be notified by February 10th and will be given the competition judging criteria, and may receive feedback.  You will have 90 seconds on the stage to pitch and no additional materials will be allowed.
  6. Practice your tongue rolls and get ready for rapid fire succession of words in your 90-second pitch!

Triton Entrepreneurs Idea Competition

Deadline to apply:  11:59pm on Sunday, February 12, 2017

Is your idea still scribbled on the back of a napkin? The Idea Competition is a chance to put it to the test. Individuals will craft a short presentation outlining the problem they see and their idea for solving it and receive valuable feedback from experienced entrepreneurs and mentors. Top teams will walk away with a package of goodies to take the first steps in moving from idea to reality.

  • UC San Diego undergraduate students
  • Early stage ideas
